Facial coding is the process of interpreting human emotions through facial expressions. Facial expressions are captured using a web camera and then decoded into their respective emotions.Affect lab helps to capture the emotions of any respondent when they are exposed to any media or product. Their expressions are captured using a web camera. Facial movements, such as changes in the position of eyebrows, jawline, mouth, cheeks, etc., are identified. The system can track even minute movements of muscles in the face and can give data about emotions such as happiness, sadness, surprise, anger, etc.
Experience Facial Coding
To experience how Facial Recognition works, click here: https://facial.affectlab.io/.Once you are on the website, start Facial Coding by playing the media on the webpage. Ensure your face needs to be in the outline provided next to the media. Please enable your web camera while accessing the application.
Insights from Facial Coding
Now one would wonder what we do with this data. The results of facial coding provide insight into viewers’ spontaneous, unfiltered reactions to visual content by recording and automatically analyzing facial expressions during the process. The data is collected on a real-time basis and gives cognitive metrics of the user’s true emotions while he is experiencing/viewing the content. It depicts the user’s attention, engagement, or emotions through its facial movement. The results are made available to users in Affect Labs Insights Dashboards.

Eye-tracking is the process of identifying the point of gaze on the screen.AffectLab's Eye Tracking uses the standard webcam embedded with the laptop or desktop to measure the eye position and movements. The webcam identifies the position of both the eyes and records eye movement as the viewer looks at some kind of stimulus presented in front of them either on a laptop, desktop, or mobile screen. The data is processed in real time, and the results are shown using intuitive heatmaps.
Experience Eye Tracking
To experience how Eye Tracking works, click here: https://eye.affectlab.io/. Read the instructions one by one and start Eye Tracking on your Laptop or Desktop. Eye Tracking starts with a calibration, post which the system will identify your point of gaze in real-time. Please enable the camera while accessing the application.
Insights from Eye Tracking
Study results are made available to users in Affect Labs Insights Dashboards. Eye trackers are used in marketing, as an input device for human-computer interaction, product design, and also in many other areas.

Affect Lab(AL) score is Entropik Tech's proprietary metric calculated based on customers' emotional reactions to the tested stimuli. Researchers and Brand Managers can use AL Score to understand the efficacy of the stimuli to evoke emotional responses in their customers.
What is Affect Lab(AL) Score?
Affect Lab(AL) score is a calculated numeric metric ranging between 0 - 100, with 0 being the least and 100 marking the highest score. The Platform calculates the AL score by evaluating the various emotion scores obtained while analyzing customers' facial expressions. AL Score is calculated only for the Facial Coding tests and is available for all Media Insights, UX Insights and Shopper Insights studies. Each stimulus will have an aggregated AL Score from the results of all participants. Users can filter or group customers in the Insights Dashboard to obtain AL Scores for various target groups.
How Affect Lab Score is calculated?
Entropiktech's facial Coding model analyzes customers' facial expressions and identifies emotional reactions such as Anger, Surprise, Fear, Sadness, Contempt, Happiness, and Disgust. Each of the emotions is scored on a 0 - 100 scale. These metrics are further grouped into Positive and Negative emotions as below.

Positive Emotion is calculated as the average of Happiness and Surprise.

Negative Emotion is calculated as the average of Anger, Fear, Sadness, Contempt, and Disgust.

Negative Emotions don't necessarily mean that the tested stimuli are not effective. Hence, both Positive and Negative emotions are used to arrive at the AL score using Entropik Tech's propriety formula.AL score can be compared with the categories' Benchmark score available in Affect Lab to understand how the stimulus compares with other products/ stimuli.
AL Scores calculated for AOIs
AL Scores calculated for AOIs include metrics from both Facial Coding and Eye Tracking. Along with Positive and Negative emotions from Facial Coding studies, Eye Tracking points are included to arrive at the refined AL scores.
