Making Question Mandatory
Learn how to make questions mandatory / required in pre-survey & post-survey questionnaires for your Affect Lab studies.
Note: All questions in a screening questionnaire are mandatory by default and cannot be made non-mandatory. This article covers the steps on how to make questions in your pre-survey and/or post-survey questionnaires mandatory.
Affect Lab allows users to specify whether a given question is mandatory or not in the settings of the questionnaire. When adding a question to a pre-survey or post-survey questionnaire in Affect Lab, users can see a star icon next to the question.
This icon can be simply clicked on to make the given question mandatory in that questionnaire. Required questions can be identified by the green star icon next to the question.

A couple of points to note about this setting:
- Any question with the 'Mandatory' icon unchecked will be treated as a non-mandatory or optional question.
- Since this icon is not checked by default, users crafting the questionnaires need to individually check each question in order to make them mandatory in the questionnaire.
When users take a test in Affect Lab, mandatory questions in Pre-survey or Post-survey questionnaires will have a red asterisk appear next to them.
